Abstract

This study aimed to design and present a “technological model for the preservation of strategic plant-based food products” within the Etka Organization, in order to strengthen the sustainability of the defense supply chain and national food security through the adoption of modern technologies. Given the critical role of food security in equitable governance and national resilience, the need to review existing preservation methods and reduce food waste—particularly in plant-based products—is increasingly evident. This applied–developmental research employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing descriptive–analytical techniques, literature reviews, field investigations, expert interviews, and questionnaires to identify and analyze the factors influencing technological food preservation. The findings introduced five key components as the pillars of the model: enabling characteristics, foundational approaches, limiting factors, technological measures, and up-to-date achievements. The proposed conceptual model integrates Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies with risk management, knowledge localization, and optimized storage processes. It aims to enhance product quality and safety, reduce costs, improve resilience, and boost exports. The results suggest that implementing this model can reduce dependence on imports, increase self-sufficiency, and establish strategic reserves, thereby strengthening the country’s resilience against threats and food crises. However, challenges such as high technology costs, the need for workforce training, cybersecurity threats, and organizational barriers must be addressed. Ultimately, this research offers practical strategies for policymakers and managers in the defense and food security sectors to develop a more efficient and resilient strategic food supply chain through a technological approach.
