Abstract

Sanctions are one of the civilian methods against the target countries, which are applied unilaterally, multilaterally and collectively and have different aspects. Using oil embargoes to implement political goals is not a new method. In the meantime, the effect of oil sanctions on economic security is one of the topics that have been investigated in different ways among researchers. In this research, in the framework of economic security and in the form of a qualitative method and understanding of the effects of oil sanctions on it, documentary and library information was collected. The results showed that the sanctions of 2012 to 2020 limited the options of selling oil and importing it. As a result, Iran was deprived of international banking and insurance systems, access to foreign investments, advanced technologies, and international shipping services. The approval of the comprehensive program of joint action canceled many previous sanctions and provided the conditions for economic development. However, in 2018, US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the JCPOA changed Iran's situation once again. The reimposition of US sanctions caused considerable concern, and caused many damages to the country's economy and political system. Considering the importance of energy resources for the industrial production method, and the importance of economic dimensions in the security agenda of countries, the provision of safe energy requirements is one of the important considerations.
