Abstract
Benefiting from a favorable environment is one of the goals of Iran's 20-year vision document. Achieving a favorable environment requires addressing environmental issues and utilizing the country's actual and potential capacities. The data were collected from documentary studies, including upstream documents, scientific literature, and the opinions of environmental experts. To establish order and coherence among the issues, expert opinions were collected using the Delphi approach. Furthermore, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) was applied to prioritize the identified issues. The results showed that the most important environmental issues in Iran include the lack of a coherent watershed management plan, the occurrence of drought and climate change, excessive water extraction, and the drying up of wetlands and lakes. Additionally , water pollution from industrial, hospital, and urban wastewater; air pollution from power plants and refineries, vehicles, and steel and iron smelting industries; and soil pollution from the entry of pesticides and excess agricultural fertilizers, along with the improper disposal of household, hospital, and industrial waste, are of paramount importance.
